
Diver Cutshaw Qualifies for NCAAs on Final Day of Zones

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Freshman Christy Cutshaw of the No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team qualified for next week's NCAA Championships by finishing sixth on platform on the last day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, held Saturday (March 10) at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Cutshaw was solid all throughout the morning. She was consistent in the final, scoring 50.00-plus on all five dives and finishing 62 points ahead of 10th, the minimum place needed to qualify.
With Cutshaw's inclusion, the team's roster will feature 14 individual qualifiers. Cutshaw will dive platform next Saturday (March 17), while fellow freshman Nikki Canale will dive on three-meter Friday after qualifying yesterday. The Wolverines are sending multiple divers to the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year.
Senior Dani VanderZwaag, in her final collegiate competition, also qualified for the final and finished 15th (440.65). Canale took 17th (417.85).
Canale and Cutshaw will be back in Columbus next week, linking up with the rest of the Wolverines for the NCAA Championships, to be held Wednesday through Saturday (March 14-17) at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Saturday (9 a.m. on Friday), with finals commencing at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday (5 p.m. on Friday).
