Jim Rogalski
- Title:
- Associate Head Coach
Jim Rogalski is in his ninth season with the Wolverines and his sixth as the associate head coach. Rogalski serves as the defensive coordinator and works with the goalies.
Â
The 2025 campaign saw Rogalski's defense allow just 129 goals for a 9.08 goals-against average, both program bests at Michigan. The Wolverine defense also killed off .244 percent of penalities, another season-best in the U-M record books. Rogalski guided two players into the top three for most caused turnovers in the Big Ten with Mason Whitney and Pace Billings finishing tied for third in the conference at 24 takeaways apiece.Â
Billings stood out on the defensive end under Rogalski's leadership earning All-American nods from USA Lacrosse Magazine (second team), USILA (third team), Inside Lacrosse (third team). He was also first team All-Big Ten selection. In the cage, junior Hunter Taylor put together a standout 2025 season with Rogalski allowing just 9.34 goals-against on average, the best individual mark in program history.Â
Rogalski and his defense kept opponents to just 11.24 goals per game which marked a new low for the Michigan program in the 2024 campaign en route to the teams second-straight Big Ten Tournament title and NCAA postseason berth. The Wolverine defense had two of the top five players in the conference as Cathal Roberts paced the B1G with 28 caused turnovers and Jack Whitney ranked fifth with 17 caused turnovers on the season, while the team led the conference with 151 takeaways.
Â
In 2023, Rogalski helped coach the Wolverines to their first Big Ten Tournament title with 10 wins on the season, including three over ranked opponents and back-to-back wins against Ohio State. Michigan made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament and earned a thrilling overtime victory over No. 6 Cornell. Rogalski was critical in the tutelage of freshman Hunter Taylor, who earned five of his six starts in U-M’s postseason run and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after he helped Michigan to its first B1G Tournament title.
Â
Michigan won its first seven games of the 2022 season as goalie Shane Carr made 181 saves to rank second all-time in U-M single season laurels that year, while ranking third in save percentage (.536) and goals against average (11.32). Meanwhile, Ryan Schriber set a program single-season record in goals by a long pole, scoring five.
Â
U-M won its first-ever Big Ten Tournament game in the 2021 season after a shortened 2020 campaign where Rogalski led a defensive unit that allowed just 11.86 goals per game and mentored a trio of goalies in the cage.
Â
In 2019, the Wolverines defeated No. 10 Ohio State for the first time in program history to spoil the Buckeyes chances of a postseason, while Rogalski’s defense led the conference in caused turnovers per game (9.50) and man-down defense (.689).
Â
In addition to his coordinator duties in his initial season in Ann Arbor, Rogalski helped guide goalie Tommy Heidt to the top single-season goals against average (10.11) in program history.
Â
Rogalski served as the head coach at Lafayette College for five seasons prior to his arrival at Michigan and was the head coach for Scranton from 2011-2016. In his first season with the Royals he led the team to a Landmark Conference Championship and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, while coaching the program’s first All-American.
Â
Prior to taking over at Scranton, Rogalski spent six seasons on the coaching staff at Rutgers, beginning in 2004. He spent three seasons as the head assistant before being promoted to associate head coach in 2007. He oversaw the Scarlet Knights' recruiting efforts, which resulted in nationally-ranked recruiting classes by Inside Lacrosse magazine in 2007 and 2008 and commitments from five High School All-Americans for the 2011 season.
Rogalski also served as an assistant coach at Drexel University, Washington & Lee University, Goucher College, Western New England College and St. Mary's College of Maryland, his alma mater.
During his undergraduate days at St. Mary's, Rogalski was a four-year letterman and three-year starter in addition to a two-time All-Capital Athletic Conference honoree.
Rogalski is the owner of Ski Lax, Inc. and co-owner of Coast to Coast Lacrosse Camp, Inc. He and his wife, Susan, have two daughters, Ella and Lia and a son, Colton.
