Soccer Improves to 5-0 with Overtime Win at EMU

YPSILANTI, MICH. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team, fresh off reaching the highest ranking in program history this week at No. 10, needed overtime to defeat Washtenaw County rival Eastern Michigan 2-1.
Emily Schmitt (Troy, Mich./Athens HS) opened the scoring at 18:43 of the first half when she converted a free kick after an Eagle foul. Eastern Michigan evened the score at 30:37 in the first half when Michigan keeper Carissa Stewart (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat HS) was unable to hold onto a shot by Kate Lewis.
After the two teams played scoreless soccer in the second half, Jessica Limauro (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) ended the match five minutes into overtime. Limauro came free down the right side and beat the Eastern keeper for the game-winner.
Michigan opens Big Ten Conference action at Wisconsin on Friday (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m. CDT.
