Reichenbach replaces Peggy Storrar, who left the program after a five-year stint, including four as a volunteer coach, to pursue opportunities with the U.S. National Team.
The addition of Reichenbach marks the last in a number of off-season changes to the U-M coaching staff. Nancy Cox, who served as a volunteer coach in 2000 and a full-time assistant in 1999, returned to full-time status as the team's top assistant this summer, taking over for Tracey Fuchs, who held the post for the past five seasons. Fuchs, who joined Storrar on the U.S. National Team, will remain with the program, serving as a volunteer assistant in 2001.
A four-year letterwinner for the Wolverines, Reichenbach anchored the defense from 1996-99, tallying six goals in 76 games while helping to establish one of the top defenses in school history. A second-team All-America selection as a senior, Reichenbach was on the field for the most memorable season in U-M history, earning a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team while leading the squad to the national championship game during the school's first-ever appearance in the postseason. Her final year in the Maize and Blue was full of accolades, as she earned Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors as well as being selected to the All-Big Ten second team and Big Ten All-Tournament team. Reichenbach also earned All-West Region first-team and Big Ten All-Tournament team laurels as a junior.
A success on the field and in the classroom, Reichenbach was named to the NFHCA All-Academic team twice (1997, '99) and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors on three occasions (1997, '98, '99). Reichenbach also received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 1999 and was voted to the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Fall/Winter At-Large team.
Reichenbach also was active within the Michigan athletic department, serving as one of two students on the University's Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics from 1998-2000. In addition, she was part of the 17-member search committee that helped select current U-M Athletic Director Bill Martin.
Following her career at Michigan, Reichenbach has remained active in field hockey, coaching several camps as well as serving as a volunteer coach at Palmyra (Pa.) High School. In addition, she has participated in the United Airlines Field Hockey Summer League for the past four years, most recently playing for the Philadelphia Fury.
A native of Palmyra, Pa., Reichenbach received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan in 2000.
