Behind the Scenes - Michigan vs. Iowa

THE HISTORY
Today marked the 61st meeting between Michigan and Iowa. With today's win, the Wolverines now hold a 42-15-4 lead in the all-time series and have claimed victories in 12 of the last 19 games between the two schools.

PREPARING FOR TODAY

HOMECOMING
This was the 119th homecoming game (excluding alumni exhibitions) and the 123rd all-time homecoming game played by the Wolverines in Ann Arbor.

FLYOVER
The game's flyover was conducted by a B-52 Stratofortress from the 20th Bomb Squadron, 2nd Bomber Wing, located at Barksdale Air Force Base. Captain “Shaker” Murray provided ground and radio support for the flyover.

HONORARY CAPTAIN
Condoleezza Rice (the 66th U.S. Secretary of State) was the honorary captain. Secretary Rice was on campus for the launch of the Weiser Diplomacy Center at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. The Center is Michigan's dynamic new hub for the study and practice of diplomacy. It continues the tradition of service and leadership embodied by President Gerald Ford, a proud Michigan Wolverine.

WREAKING HAVOC
The Wolverine defense caused four turnovers and sacked Hawkeye quarterback Nate Stanley eight times to help U-M post back-to-back stifling defensive efforts. Iowa managed just 249 yards, well below its season average of 465 yards per game. The Hawkeyes had just one rushing yard one week after racking up 351 yards on the ground against Middle Tennessee State.

THREE-INTERCEPTION DAY
Josh Metellus, Lavert Hill and Ambry Thomas each had an interception. The three interceptions were more than Michigan had total over its first four games. Hill and Thomas had one prior to Saturday while Metellus tallied his first of the year. Nate Stanley had thrown 118 passes without an interception prior to today's game.

8 SACKS
Five different players combined for the eight sacks. Kwity Paye matched his performance from last week against Rutgers with 2.5 sacks to lead the way, while Jordan Glasgow tied a career high with two sacks to match his total from the Middle Tennessee State game to open the season. Cameron McGrone tallied 1.5 sacks while Aidan Hutchinson added one and Michael Danna recorded his first sack as a Wolverine.

THE FINAL

MICHIGAN SPORTS HALL OF FAME
