2019-20 Photos of the Year: Dianna Oatridge
Michigan Athletics and Michigan Photography present the 2019-20 Photos of the Year! Starting July 21-24 and running through July 27-30, you will see what eight photographers from Michigan Photography deem to be their top images covering Michigan Athletics events in 2019-20, a year shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the words of the photographers, you'll read what can go into getting that perfect shot and just why they consider these to be the best of the best. Freelance photographer Dianna Oatridge continues our Photos of the Year by sharing some of her best images from the past year. Enjoy!
DRIVING THE LANE
“Naz Hillmon drives to the hoop as the Wolverines defeat Morgan State on Dec. 1 at Crisler Center. The wide-angle shot not only captures the game action but also the atmosphere of Crisler, featuring its signature lights and championship banners, which is why this made my list of favorite photos of the year.”

HOME-OPENING HOOPLA
“The women’s lacrosse team celebrates after scoring a goal against Louisville during its home opener on Feb. 21 at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The combination of the Wolverines' jubilation and the Cardinals' disappointment created that classic ‘thrill of victory, agony of defeat’ image. Bonus points for the swinging ponytail!”

LEAP DAY
“Natalie Wojcik nails her tumbling pass on the balance beam, scoring a near-perfect, career-high 9.975 in helping the Wolverines clinch the Big Ten regular-season title at the Elevate the Stage meet Feb. 29 in Toledo, Ohio. Her clean body lines, laser-focused eyes and the action capture make this one of my all-time favorite sports images.”

----------------------------------------
RALLY POINT
“Volleyball's Ellie Brooks (left) and Lizzie Sadilek celebrate a kill during Michigan's match against Penn State on Oct. 18 at Crisler Center. The reaction in this photo really helps tell the story of how competitively the Wolverines played the eighth-ranked Nittany Lions that night.”

----------------------------------------

FLOATING TO THE RIM
“Amy Dilk glides to the basket during the Wolverines' win over Bradley on Nov. 19 at Crisler Center. The movement of Dilk’s ponytail and the position of the ball just off her fingertips complete the image.”
----------------------------------------

STRENGTH AND BALANCE
“Gabby Wilson performs her floor exercise routine with unbelievable strength during the Michigan Quad meet Dec. 7 at Crisler Center.”
----------------------------------------
B1G-TIME CELEBRATION
“The women’s gymnasts celebrate with their families and fans after winning the Big Ten regular-season title Feb. 29 at the Elevate the Stage meet. So much emotion was captured in this jubilation photo.”

----------------------------------------
READY TO STRIKE
“Sydney Wetterstrom takes her approach on the way to a match-high 16-kill performance against Penn State at Crisler Center on Oct. 18. So much thought and patience went into the creation of this wide-angle shot, and all the pieces fell into place -- including the ball position between the lights of Crisler.”

LOOKING TO LAND
“Maddie Mariani performs her tumbling pass on the balance beam during the Michigan Quad meet on Dec. 7 at Crisler Center. By shooting from a low angle, I was able to create the perfect block M backdrop at the height of her layout.”
----------------------------------------
HAVING A THREE PARTY
“Maddie Nolan (from left), Naz Hillmon and Akienreh Johnson react after a Wolverine three-pointer during their rout of Morgan State on Dec. 1 at Crisler Center. The depth of the expression on their faces makes this one of my favorite jubilation photos of the year.”
