
Fantilli Named to Hockey Canada World Championship Roster

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 2023 Hobey Baker Award winner and University of Michigan ice hockey forward Adam Fantilli has been named to Hockey Canada's National Team for the 2023 IIHF Men's World Championship.
The World Championship will be held May 12-28 in Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia. The 16 teams, split into Groups A and B, will play a round-robin format in the preliminary round with the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Canada will be in Group B, and take on Sweden in the first game of the tournament on May 12.
The nation's leading scorer, Fantilli averaged 1.81 points per game in his freshman campaign for the Wolverines. He tallied 30 goals and 35 assists in 36 games en route to capturing the most prestigious honor in college hockey. The Nobleton, Ontario, native had points in 33 of 36 games and had 19 multi-point performances.
His list of accolades is intense, as it includes: Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year, first-team All-America, Big Ten Tournament MVP, Big Ten Freshman of the Year, College Hockey News and USCHO Player of the Year, first-team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Rookie Team and NCAA All-Regional Team honors.
Fantilli was a member of the Canada World Junior team that won gold in January. He finished that international tournament with five points in seven games.
Forty-seven Wolverines have played in the World Championship, including 38 for the United States, eight for Canada and one for Austria. Michigan players have brought home 17 medals (four gold, three silver and 10 bronze).
