University of Michigan Hall of Honor

Albert Wistert
- Induction:
- 1981
Nicknamed "The Ox" by his teammates because of his size and determination, Albert Wisert was the second of the three Wistert brothers to star in a Wolverine football uniform. Ox anchored the Michigan line for three years and achieved All-America status at tackle in 1942. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Al twice led the Wolverines to once-defeated seasons, in which Michigan fell only to national champion Minnesota. After Michigan, Ox was the captain of the Eagles' teams which captured the NFL title in 1948 and 1949. Al's uniform number, 11, also worn by each of his brothers, was later retired by U-M before being celebrated within the Michigan Legends program in 2012.
