University of Michigan Hall of Honor

Bill Hewitt
- Induction:
- 2008
Bill Hewitt epitomized the fierce competitive spirit and athletic excellence of a true Michigan Wolverine. The hard-headed, fleet-footed defensive end standout garnered all-conference honors in 1931 and was also named team MVP. The Chicago Bears realized Hewitt’s versatility and outstanding talent, drafting him after his final season at Michigan. Throughout his pro and college career, Hewitt was known for his explosiveness from the line of scrimmage and unorthodox habit of playing without a helmet. Hewitt was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
