Few men have accomplished or contributed more to the betterment of wrestling than Harold Nichols. In 1939, Nichols claimed both the Big Ten title and the NCAA title for the 145-pound division, as the Wolverines took fifth place in the NCAA Championships. Nichols is most known for his coaching prowess, where after leaving Ann Arbor he built the Iowa State Cyclones into a national wrestling power. In 32 years at Iowa State, Nichols' wrestlers won six NCAA team championships and 38 NCAA individual championships.
