Harry Kipke
- Induction:
- 1981
One of the most versatile athletes in Michigan history, Harry Kipke went on to become one of the Wolverines' greatest coaches as well. Harry starred for the Michigan football team from 1921-23 and earned All-America honors at halfback in 1922. He captained the 1923 squad, which went undefeated and captured the Big Ten championship. During Kipke's three years, Michigan won 19 of 22 games, completed two undefeated seasons and won two Big Ten titles. In all, Kipke earned nine varsity letters: three each in football, basketball and baseball. Harry returned to Michigan as head football coach in 1929, and the following year began a string of four consecutive Big Ten championships. The final two of those seasons, 1932 and 1933, Kipke's Wolverines won the national championship as well. Harry later served on the University's Board of Regents and the Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics and was inducted into the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame in 1958.
