University of Michigan Hall of Honor

Julie Bachman
- Induction:
- 2009
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Julie Bachman was a standout on the U-M swim team and left Ann Arbor as one of Michigan’s most-decorated student-athletes. Her accomplishments include a pair of Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) (the predecessor to the NCAA) national titles in 1978 on the one-meter and three-meter springboards. Bachman is one of only two women in Michigan diving history to capture two titles, matching two-time Olympian Chris Seufert’s performance in 1977. During her tenure at Michigan, Bachman also won the 1978 Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national championship on the one-meter springboard and took two gold medals in the Maccabiah Games in Israel.
