Every step Michigan gymnastics has taken carries Newt Loken's signature. The enthusiastic head coach compiled a 238-61-1 record in 34 seasons of dedication to Michigan and its gymnastics program. During his tenure, Newt developed 69 individual Big Ten and 22 individual NCAA champions. In addition, he guided Wolverine teams to 12 conference titles and two NCAA crowns. He is a two-time National Coach of the Year and an Honor Coach of the Year for 25 years of dedication to the sport and was named to the National Trampoline and Tumbling Hall of Fame, the Michigan Amateur Sports Hall of Fame and the United Savings-Helms Hall of Fame. He also earned the Master of Sports Award from the United States Gymnastics Federation.
