Paul Goebel starred as an end on Michigan's football team from 1920-22 and captained the 1922 Wolverine squad, which captured the Big Ten championship. During Paul's three years on the gridiron, Michigan lost only three of 21 contests. Goebel achieved All-America status his senior year and earned the Big Ten Medal for Proficiency in Academics and Athletics. He continued his life in football after graduation, playing professionally for four seasons, and served as a Big Ten official until 1953. Goebel used his Michigan degree off the field, serving three terms as Mayor of Grand Rapids and as a Regent of the University of Michigan.
