Ralph Heikkinen was a standout on the 1937 and 1938 Wolverine football squads. As an undersized but dominating offensive and defensive guard, he became the first two-time recipient of the team MVP award in Michigan history. Heikkinen was known to play nearly every minute of each game and was recognized as a consensus All-American following his senior season. After his college days, he had a brief professional football career with the NFL Brooklyn Dodgers and used his Michigan Law degree to go on to a successful career at General Motors.
