Richard Volk

Richard Volk

Induction:

1967

Volk was a standout defensive back on Bump Elliott’s 1964 Big Ten championship team that defeated Oregon State in the 1965 Rose Bowl. A nephew of fellow Hall of Honor inductee Bob Chappuis, Volk played quarterback and halfback before becoming an All-American on defense. Known as a hard-hitting tackler and a keen analyst of opposing plays, Volk was recognized as one of the truly great defensive players of his time and earned All-Big Ten and All-American honors. After graduation, he was drafted by the Baltimore Colts, where he spent nine of his 12 years in the NFL and played on two Super Bowl teams.
