A synchronized swimming pioneer, Pickett Thompson displayed grace in and out of the water. She was selected as the 1979 and 1980 AIAW Broderick Award Winner in Synchronized Swimming, given to the nation’s top female collegiate athlete in her sport. A four-time All-American, she placed among the top three individuals at the Intercollegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships every year. Her accomplishments were recognized with the Marie Hartwig Award in 1981 as the University of Michigan’s Female Athlete of the Year. In 1998, she received the Gerald R. Ford Award, honoring a former U-M student-athlete who exemplifies excellence in scholarship, sport and society.Â
