Looking to the Week Ahead
The Michigan women's soccer team closes out the regular season with two non-conference opponents this weekend at the Michigan Soccer Field. Brigham Young and Kentucky will travel to Ann Arbor to close out the slate. Here is a look at the upcoming week's opponent:
Brigham Young: The Cougars will travel to Ann Arbor as the nation's 13th-ranked team. BYU and the Wolverines will be meeting for the first time. U-M will also be competing against its first Western Athletic Conference opponent in the history of the program. Brigham Young is 14-3-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the WAC. The Cougars are coming off a 2-1 defeat to No. 11 San Diego State.
Kentucky: The Wildcats and the Wolverines will be meeting for the third time. The last meeting was a 2-0 Michigan win on Aug. 31, 1997, in Lexington, Ky. Michigan holds a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series. Kentucky is 0-0-1 all-time in Ann Arbor, with a 2-2 tie on Sept. 26, 1996. UK is 8-6-2 overall and 5-3-0 in the SEC and will play at Dayton on Friday (Oct. 30) before travelling to Ann Arbor.
Looking Back at the Week Past

McArdle on Net
Although Stephanie McArdle is known for her stellar defensive play, she came within an inch of scoring the biggest goal in the history of Michigan women's soccer. The junior headed a corner kick from Emily Schmitt off the crossbar in the closing minutes of Friday's game with Notre Dame. That shot was McArdle's first of the season. She has registered just eleven shots on goal throughout her career at U-M.
Evening Out the Shots
In last season's 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Irish, the Wolverines were outshot 44-1. This season, not only was the game a lot closer, the Wolverines were only outshot 19-6 by a dominating Irish offense.
Attendance Record
A new school record crowd of 1,092 was in attendance at Friday's game against Notre Dame at the Michigan Soccer Field. The previous record of 951 was set on Sept. 28, 1997, when the Wolverines defeated Northwestern 5-3.
