University of Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr won his 35th career game with the 15-10 victory over Minnesota. Carr has a 35-9 career mark and is 4-0 against the Golden Gophers in his career.
Wolverines Retain "Little Brown Jug"
Michigan's 15-10 victory over Minnesota kept the "Little Brown Jug" in Ann Arbor for another season. The Wolverines retained the oldest trophy-game prize for the 12th consecutive year. They have a 59-21-3 record in the "Little Brown Jug" series and have a 63-23-3 record all-time against the Gophers.
Three Make 20th Straight Starts
Three junior members of the Michigan football team made their 20th straight starts in the Minnesota game. Sophomore left tackle Jeff Backus (Norcross, Ga./Norcross HS) started on the offensive side of the ball while juniors Tommy Hendricks (Houston, Texas/Eisenhower HS) and Rob Renes (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) were in the starting lineup at strong safety and nose tackle, respectively.
Jansen Makes 45th Consecutive Starting Assignment
Senior captain Jon Jansen (Clawson, Mich./Clawson HS) became the eighth Michigan player to start 45 or more games with his 45th consecutive start in the Minnesota game. Jansen has played all 45 contests coaches by Lloyd Carr, with all of his starting assignments coming at right tackle.
Streets Has Career Day at Metrodome
Senior wide receiver Tai Streets (Matteson, Ill./Thornton Township HS) provide Michigan's offensive firepower against Minnesota, collecting six receptions for 192 yards and a touchdown reception. This is the second game in a row that Streets has surpassed the 100-yard receiving plateau (117 yards on eight catches vs. Indiana) and the sixth 100-yard or more receiving game in his career. Streets' 192 yards receiving is the second most in Michigan school history, five yards shy of Jack Clancy's 197-yard performance against Oregon State on Sept. 17, 1966. Streets caught three passes for 138 yards and one touchdown in the first half.
Streets Moves into Record Book Again
Tai Streets' 76-yard touchdown reception from Tom Brady (San Mateo, Calif./Serra HS) was a career long and tied for the fourth-longest receiving touchdown in Michigan history. Streets has caught a touchdown pass in five straight games and has seven TD receptions this season.
Brady Throws for Career High
Junior quarterback Tom Brady threw for a career-high 282 yard on 19-of-27 passing. The 282-yard effort surpasssed his previous best of 267 yards passing in the season opener at Notre Dame (Sept. 5). Brady's passing yards were the 12th best single-game total in Michigan history. His 19 completions were the second-best of his career, four completions short of the 23 he had against the Fighting Irish.
