Field Hockey Rallies to Beat Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The ninth-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team moved its record to 10-2 and remained perfect in the Big Ten (3-0) by overcoming a 2-0 first-half deficit and defeating Northwestern 3-2.
Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) continued her outstanding play by scoring one goal and assisting on the other two. Amy Philbrook (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead HS) scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner with 14:24 left on the clock. Catherine Foreman (Happy Valley, South Australia/Westminster School) assisted on each of the three Michigan goals, and Courtney Reid (South Deerfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon HS) assisted on one.
"We're very happy to be coming home undefeated in the Big Ten," said Michigan head coach Marcia Pankratz. "Iowa and Northwestern are two very good teams and we have two very big games coming next weekend against Ohio State and Penn State. We wanted to head into the Ohio State game perfect in the Big Ten and we accomplished that."
The Wolverines begin their two-game homestand by hosting Ohio State on Friday (Oct. 9) at 3 p.m. at Ocker Field.
