The University of Michigan Athletic Department has announced that the National Collegiate Athletic Association has responded to the report provided by the University of Michigan on Oct. 2, 1998, pursuant to student-athlete Marcus Ray (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor HS).
Ray, a senior starting strong safety and tri-captain on the Michigan football, was suspended indefinitely by Head Coach Lloyd Carr on Thursday, Sept. 18, due to allegations provided by the NCAA on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The NCAA has given Ray an additional two-game suspension beyond the three games already served during his indefinite suspension by the University. Ray must also pay a monetary imbursement to a local charity for repayment of benefits received at the event cited in the internal report.
