U-M Youngsters Wrestle at Ben McMullen Open

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- The freshmen and sophomores of the University of Michigan wrestling team participated in the Ben McMullen Open on Saturday, Nov. 14, in Muskegon, Mich. There was no team scoring but several Wolverines turned in impressive performances as four individuals were crowned champions.
Mike Kulczycki (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Edward HS), Charles Martelli (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North HS), Kyle Smith (Butte, Mont./Butte HS) and Matt Brink (Muskegon, Mich./Fruitport HS) each won their respective weight class.
"It was a tough tournament because it was all day with no breaks," said assistant coach Kirk Trost. "We wrestled pretty tough and we had four champions."
The Maize and Blue grapplers will return to action Dec. 4-5 when they travel to Primm, Nev., to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational.
