"Andy is one of the elite players in not only the USA Development program but in his entire age group," said U-M head coach Red Berenson. "He will be a great addition to Michigan hockey and to college hockey in general."
In 17 games this season, Hilbert has scored nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points. He is currently second in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in assists and third in points.
"He's a great skater, and he should fit in well with the Michigan program," said Team USA National head coach Jeff Jackson. "He's the total package, and I really think he has the ability to do some offensive things like we saw from Brendan Morrison and play defensively and with the intensity of a Cam Stewart."
Last season, Hilbert, 17, finished second on the team with 34 goals and 30 points for 64 points in 75 games. Thirteen of his goals were scored on the power play.
"Andy has the makings of a great hockey player," said Bob Mancini, associate national head coach. "He has all the tools and skills needed, and now he understands the game better, both with and without the puck."
