Michigan to Host Xavier in NCAA First Round

Coach Debbie Belkin's squad will host Xavier University in the NCAA first round at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 11) at the Michigan Soccer Field. The winner advances to the second round to meet Notre Dame, the tournament's No. 4 seed, at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 15) in South Bend, Ind.

Xavier (12-6-2) earned one of the 22 automatic bids to this year's NCAA Tournament by winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Dayton in the title game on Sunday, Nov. 8, in Dayton, Ohio. The Musketeers are one of 12 schools which will be making their first NCAA appearance this year.
Michigan is one of six Big Ten Conference teams which will be competing in this year's NCAA Tournament, tying the Big Ten with the Southeastern Conference for the most selections. Joining the Wolverines are regular-season and tournament champion Penn State, along with Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern and Wisconsin.
The Wolverines, who finished fifth in the Big Ten Conference regular-season race with a 5-3-1 league mark, advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament before falling 3-1 to Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 7, in State College, Pa.
The NCAA Tournament second round (Nov. 14-15), third round (Nov. 20-22) and quarterfinals (Nov. 27-29) will be played at campus sites. The national semifinals (Dec. 4) and championship (Dec. 6) will be contested at Greensboro, N.C., with the University of North Carolina-Greensboro serving as host.
