CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The eighth-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team fell to No. 7 Boston College 2-1 despite another solid defensive effort. The loss drops the Wolverines' record to 6-2, with both losses coming to teams ranked in the top 10 (No. 6 Maryland).
Michigan got off to the early lead once again as Loveita Wilkinson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) netted her third goal of the season and second in as many games just 12 minutes into the contest. That was all for the Wolverines, however, as the BC defense tightened and allowed just four shots the rest of the game.
Boston College got on the board 12 minutes into the second half on a goal from Katie Gentile. Two minutes later, the Eagles scored the game winner off the stick of Julianne Marrone.
The Big Ten season begins Thursday (Sept. 24) at 4 p.m. when the Wolverines host rival Michigan State at Phyllis Ocker Field.

QUOTES
Michigan Head Coach Marcia Pankratz
"We did dominate the match, but sometimes that happens in field hockey, where you dominate the match -- outshoot them -- and you don't win. We are a good team. We're in the top 10, and we deserve to be there. They were a little bit better than us."
