The Wolverines finished the year with a 10-3 record and a 7-1 mark in the Big Ten. They won their 39th conference title and claimed back-to-back Big Ten titles for the sixth time in the past 20 years. Michigan closed out the season with a 45-31 victory over Arkansas in the CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1.
Michigan has finished in the final Top 25 Associated Press poll the last 14 years. The Wolverines also have finished in all eight Top 25 final polls affiliated with the coaches through USA Today and have been ranked in the last 30 coaches polls (22 United Press International and eight USA Today polls).
The last time the Wolverines finished the year ranked 12th nationally was 1994, when they were listed in both the AP and USA Today rankings. The only other time in school history where Michigan ranked 12th unanimously was at the conclusion of the 1981 season (both AP and UPI). Michigan also finished 12th in the final AP poll during the 1955 and 1968 seasons.
