On Sunday (Oct. 10), Oakes again was instrumental in Michigan's 2-1 victory over Northwestern as she made four crucial saves, including two late on potential game-tying shots.
Oakes has 2.5 shutouts on the season, giving her 12 for her career and tying her for fourth all-time on the Michigan career shutout list. Laura Pieri recorded 20 shutouts from 1976-79 to set the standard for career shutouts.
This marks the fourth time in her career Oakes has won defensive Player of the Week honors, tying her with former Wolverine Julie Flachs for the most Big Ten Player of the Week honors in a career by a Michigan player.
The No. 7 Wolverines return to action today (Wednesday, Oct. 13) when they face Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant at 3 p.m. The team returns home to face Michigan State on Sunday (Oct. 17, 1 p.m.) in the second of two meetings on the season. Michigan took the first meeting Sept. 22 in East Lansing, 2-1.
