PITTSBURGH -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team's top boat finished third by just six seconds to Brown, the defending national champion, and Virginia Saturday (Oct. 2) at the Head of the Ohio regatta in Pittsburgh. The race was the first of three fall races this season.
Michigan entered two other boats in the regatta, with the second eight finishing 10th and the third eight taking 15th.
The Wolverines, who rowed without standout Kate Johnson (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) due to an injury, finished ahead of the three other Big Ten Conference schools that entered boats in the race, defeating Michigan State and Ohio State by just over 4.5 seconds and Wisconsin by over 20 seconds.
This coming Saturday (Oct. 9), Michigan hosts the Family Fun Row at Belleville Lake. The event starts at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. The Fun Row is an opportunity for fans to join members of the team in the boats and experience what it is like to row for a top-ranked program.
Michigan's next race is the Head of the Charles on Sunday, Oct. 24, in Boston, Mass. The Head of the Charles is the world's largest two-day rowing event, with over 5,400 athletes in 19 races.
