Up Next for the Wolverines
The Michigan men's cross country team will travel to Orono, Maine, this weekend for the 8th annual Murray Keatinge Invitational. The 8,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. at the University of Maine cross country course. Teams from the Midwest and East Coast will compete in Saturday's invitational, including Vermont and Ball State. Purdue and No. 12 Michigan are the only Big Ten Conference schools participating.
Men Continuing Success
Michigan proved its national ranking last Friday evening (Oct. 1) at the adidas/Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. The Wolverines had their second meeting with then-No. 12 Georgetown and tied the Hoyas with 81 points for the invitational title. The first meeting was on Sept. 18 at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, where Michigan finished 12 points behind Georgetown for a third-place team finish.
Senior Jay Cantin (Camlachie, Ontario/St. Clair SS) led Michigan with his second-place finish, crossing the finish line at 23:54.
... Junior Mike Wisniewski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) is still on his hot streak. For the third consecutive meet, he was one of the Wolverines' top two finishers. At Notre Dame, Wisniewski placed eighth overall and was the Wolverines' second finisher, with a time of 24:20.
... Cantin continues to improve. The senior has dropped over a minute off his time each time he has run in a meet this season. As of Sept. 29, the season best time in the Big Ten was 24:18 set by Jason Mueller of Minnesota. Cantin's personal best of 23:54 was set Friday (Oct. 1) and should be one of the best in the Big Ten this week.
... The Wolverines are dropping their times. At the Michigan Open, the top 10 runners clocked times under 27 minutes. All five of Michigan's scoring places were under 27 minutes at the Spiked Shoe Invitational as well. At the adidas/Notre Dame Invitational all Wolverines came in at 25:28 and under.
