Leading the way for Michigan was senior tri-captain Josh Trexler (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook HS), who had first-place finishes in the one- and three-meter diving events. The rest of the Michigan attack was balanced as five different Wolverines each turned in individual first-place performances.
Junior All-American Chris Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS) placed first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with an NCAA automatic qualifying time (15:05.75), leading a U-M 1-2-3 finish. Teammates Tim Siciliano (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos HS) and Mike O'Connor (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) took second and third place, respectively.
Freshmen Paul Ely (Beaverton, Ore./Sunset HS) and Garrett Mangieri (Closter, N.J./Mercersburg Academy) won back-to-back events for the Wolverines as Ely took first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:50.68 and Mangieri won the 100-yard freestyle in 45.81.
Siciliano and Scott Werner (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI HS) also won individual events for Michigan. Siciliano had a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:25.32. Werner finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:01.30.
The 800-yard relay team of Thompson, senior tri-captain Mike McWha (Windsor, Ontario, Kennedy Collegiate Institute), Siciliano and Mangieri turned in a time of 6:38.48 for the Wolverines' final first-place finish.
The Wolverines will have three weeks off until they compete in the U.S. Open in San Antonio, Texas, Dec. 3-5.
