ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore center Mike Comrie (Edmonton, Alberta) of the University of Michigan ice hockey team is one of 32 players selected to compete for 22 spots on the Canadian National Junior Team. The team, which features the top players in Canada who are under 20 years old, will compete in the 2000 World Junior Championships in Skelleftea and Umca, Sweden, from Dec. 25, 1999, to Jan. 4, 2000.
"He's a prolific player," said Michigan head coach Red Berenson. "He should be a strong candidate to make the team. He will add instant offense, playmaking and creativity to the Canadian team."

Comrie will have a chance to become the third member of the Michigan ice hockey team to represent his country at the 2000 World Junior Championships, as Jeff Jillson (N. Smithfield, R.I.) and Andy Hilbert (Howell, Mich.) will play for the U.S. National Junior team. The final roster for the Canadian team will be announced Dec. 17.
Comrie leads the Wolverines with 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 15 games this season. He was invited to the 1999 selection camp but did not make the team. This past summer, he participated in the Canadian Hockey Association's Evaluation Camp.
