Michigan Football Signs 24 Players to Letters of Intent

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr announced the signing of 24 high school seniors to letters of intent. The players will be eligible to join the Wolverines football program beginning in the fall 1999.
The recruiting class includes three players selected to the USA Today High School All-America Team. Offensive lineman Tony Pape (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale South HS) was selected First Team All-America, while defensive back Jeremy LeSueur (Holly Springs, Miss/Holly Springs HS) and offensive lineman Demeterius Solomon (Flint, Mich./Northern HS) received Second Team All-America honors.
This recruiting class consists of student-athletes from 13 different states, including six from the state of Michigan. The Wolverines also added four players from Ohio, as well as two each from California, Louisiana and Wisconsin.
Besides the commitment of Demeterius Solomon, the Wolverines five other in-state commitments are offensive lineman Andy Brown (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge HS), running back Brent Cummings (Greenville, Mich./Belding HS), linebacker Shantee Orr (Detroit, Mich./Denby HS), defensive lineman David Pearson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) and running back Fred Russell (Romulus, Mich./Romulus HS).
