"Mike (Comrie) had an exceptional season from the first game all the way through the postseason," said Michigan head coach Red Berenson. "A Rookie of the Year rarely leads his team in scoring, but Comrie is more than a great rookie. He is a great player in this league.

In the first round of the CCHA Tournament, Comrie scored a goal and three assists to improve his season statistics to 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points and a plus/minus rating of +19. He leads the Wolverines in assists, points and plus/minus. Comrie had a team-high 11 multiple-point games, with a season-high four points on three occasions.
At the end of the 1998-99 regular season, Comrie led all CCHA freshmen and was seventh overall in the conference in goals (17), assists (22) and points (39). In league games, he led all freshmen and was sixth overall with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points.
The only Wolverine freshman to play every game this season, Comrie was one of two U.S. collegiate players -- teammate Mike Van Ryn (London, Ontario) was the other -- invited to try out for the Canadian National Junior Team for the 1999 World Junior Championship.
Comrie is in position to be the first freshman to lead Michigan in points since David Roberts (1990-93) scored 21-32-53 in 42 games during the 1989-90 season. Comrie is also in line to be the first freshman to lead the team in goals since Denny Felsner (1989-92) netted 30 goals in the 1988-89 season.
Comrie is the fifth Wolverine to earn the CCHA Rookie of the Year award in the 1990s and the seventh since Michigan joined the CCHA in 1981-82. Previous Michigan CCHA Rookie of the Year award winners are Marty Turco (1995), Brendan Morrison (1994), Brian Wiseman (1991), David Roberts (1990), Chris Seychel (1983) and Jon Elliot (1982).
Michigan (22-10-6) faces Ohio State in the CCHA Tournament semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Friday (March 19) at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
