MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team captured a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin today (Sunday, March 28) at the Nielsen Tennis Center, raising its winning streak to six consecutive matches. The Wolverines have a 9-1 record on the season and opened the Big Ten season with a pair of victories.
The Wolverines fell behind 1-0 in the match as Wisconsin won two of the three doubles matches to collect the team point. Michigan kept the Badgers from a doubles sweep as junior John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) and senior co-captain Jake Raiton (Portland, Ore./Wilson HS) defeated Danny Westerman and Justin Baker 8-3 at the No. 3 spot. Long and Raiton have a perfect 8-0 dual match record and lead the team with 10 doubles wins together (10-2 overall record).
Michigan hung on for the victory as the Wolverines won four of the six singles matches for a close 4-3 win. Senior co-captain William Farah (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS), Long, and freshmen Danny McCain (Largo, Fla./Canterbury School) and Ben Cox (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) collected the team's singles victories at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
