MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --Freshman Bess Bowers (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North HS) posted her second consecutive top-20 finish to lead the University of Michigan women's golf squad to a sixth-place finish at the Myrtle Beach Classic Saturday and Sunday (March 27-28) at the Myrtle Beach Golf Club's Pinehills Course.
Bowers fired rounds of 80 and 81 to finish in a tie with teammate Amy Talbot (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) for 15th place, just five strokes out of the top five. For Bowers, it is the second consecutive tournament she has led the Maize and Blue as she finished in a tie for 10th place at the TFN/Spring Lake Invite (March 15-16).
Talbot shot a season-low round of 78, matching her career best, in the first round and was in fourth place after the first day.
Other Wolverines participating in the 59-player field were Sharon Park (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS), Cortney Reno (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS), Jennifer Baumann (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) and Misia Lemanski (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS). Park finished in a tie 24th place while Reno, competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 30th place. Park shot an 89 on the first day but bounced back in the second round with a 76, tying her season best. Reno's 83s each day mark her career low.
