Wolverines Eighth in the Preseason AP Football Poll

Four of the top 10 teams in the country are from the Big Ten Conference, led by Penn State at No. 3. The Wolverines follow at No. 8, with Ohio State and Wisconsin rounding out the top 10 at the ninth and 10th spots, respectively. The top five consists of preseason No. 1 Florida State, No. 2 Tennessee, Penn State, No. 4 Arizona and No. 5 Florida.
The Wolverines will face five schools listed in the Associated Press preseason top 25 rankings. Beside Penn State (Nov. 13), Ohio State (Nov. 20) and Wisconsin (Sept. 25), Michigan opens the season against No. 18 Notre Dame (Sept. 4) and hosts No. 23 Purdue in its homecoming game (Oct. 2). The Big Ten, Southeastern and Big 12 conferences each have five teams in the top 25.
Michigan will begin its 120th season against Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 4, in Michigan Stadium (3:30 p.m. EDT on ABC). This will be the 12th consecutive time that the Wolverines will enter the game ranked in the top 10 nationally by the Associated Press and the 16th time in the last 19 games that both squads enter the matchup ranked in the AP top 25.
