ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior quarterback and tri-captain Tom Brady (San Mateo, Calif./Serra HS) has been selected as one of 15 candidates for the 1999 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, presented annually to the nation's top senior collegiate quarterback by the Frank Camp Chapter of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation.
Brady enters the Notre Dame game (Sept. 4) with a streak of 12 games with a TD pass, trailing the school mark of 13 set by Elvis Grbac (1990-91). Brady completed 214-of-350 passing attempts for 2,427 yards and 14 TDs a year ago, leading the Wolverines to a Big Ten title, Citrus Bowl victory and a 10-win season in only his first campaign as a starter. Brady's completions and attempts set school season records in 1998, and he set single-game records for passing attempts (56), completions (31) and yardage (375) against Ohio State.
