Wolverines Roll to Victory at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The ninth-ranked Michigan wrestling team picked up its fourth straight win with a 21-15 victory over 18th-ranked Central Michigan on Sunday (Jan. 16). With the win, the Wolverines improved to 7-1 on the season.

Joe Degain (White Lake, Mich./Clarkston, HS) gave the Wolverines an early lead with an upset 10-6 decision over 14th-ranked Chris Vike at 197 pounds. Heavyweight Matt Brink (Muskegon, Mich./Fruitport HS) put the Maize and Blue up 6-0 with a 10-4 decision.

The Chippewas fought back and tied the score at 6-6, but three straight wins -- by seventh-ranked Damion Logan (Garfield, N.J./St. Joseph Regional HS) at 141, Mike Kulczycki (N. Royalton, Ohio/St. Edwards HS) at 149 and Tony Holifield (Mt. Morris, Mich./E.A. Johnson HS) at 157 -- put the match out of reach.

At 184 pounds, Andy Hrovat (Gates Mills, Ohio/St. Edwards HS) iced the victory by winning the last match 6-3, taking his dual-meet record to a perfect 8-0.

The Wolverines will be back home next Friday (Jan. 21) to square off against the Northwestern Wildcats at 7 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena.
