Wolverine Women's Netters Defeat Western Michigan

Michigan earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots but lost a tight 8-6 match at No. 3 that would have completed the sweep. Freshman Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach HS) and sophomore Jen Vaughn (Jefferson City, Mo./Lawrence HS) teamed to beat Cyra Malik and Melanie Remynse by an 8-5 score at the No. 1 spot. Senior co-captain Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) and freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) tallied an 8-5 win over Larissa Chinwah and Nikki Thompson at the No. 2 slot.
In singles, the Wolverines won matches at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 slots to capture their 11th consecutive match against the Broncos. Junior Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium), Musgrove and Sinclair won matches in straight sets, while Duprez came back from a first-set loss to win her first collegiate dual match, beating Diana Dimitrescu (4-6, 6-1, 6-1).
Western Michigan claimed its two points in the match at the No. 1 and No. 5 slots. Chinwah beat Hart in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) at the No. 1 slot, and Remynse defeated Vaughn at the No. 5 slot (6-4, 6-3).
