The two Wolverines played key roles in Michigan's 1-0 victory over Penn State (Oct. 20) that clinched a tie for a piece of the Big Ten regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed -- and a first-round bye -- in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament on Nov. 3-5 in Ann Arbor at Ocker Field.
Fronzoni scored the game-winning goal against the Nittany Lions. It was her 14th of the season, which ties her for the team lead with Molly Powers (Oak Park, Ill/Oak Park-River Forest HS). Fronzoni holds the Michigan freshman scoring record for goals (14) and points (30).
Tasch, a junior goalkeeper, made two key saves in the victory over Penn State for her third shutout of the season. Tasch is 8-2 overall with a 1.20 goals against average and is 2-0 in conference play with a 0.50 GAA.
This is the second time this season that the Wolverines have boasted two honored athletes in the same week. Catherine Foreman (Happy Valley, S. Australia/Westminister) and Kelli Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) were Big Ten weekly recipients for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
No. 5-ranked Michigan (15-3, 5-0 Big Ten) will play its final regular-season contest and honor the departing seniors when the Wolverines host No. 19 Michigan State on Friday (Oct. 27, 3 p.m.) at Ocker Field. A victory over the Spartans would give the Wolverines their first outright Big Ten regular-season title.
