MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team was the runner-up at the Big Ten Conference Championships on Sunday (Oct. 29) at Yahara Hills Golf Course. No. 3-ranked Wisconsin (34 points) won its sixth straight Big Ten team titles, while the Wolverines (89) edged out No. 18 Minnesota (99) for their fourth straight Big Ten second-place finish.
Defending champion Erica Palmer of Wisconsin blew away the field to win her second consecutive individual title by 20 seconds (16:44). Junior Katy Radkewich (Hudson, Ohio/Beaumont HS) led the charge for the Maize and Blue as she was U-M's top finisher for the first time this season, coming in 11th (17:44). With her spot among the 8-14 overall finishers, Radkewich received All-Big Ten Second Team honors.
Senior Katie Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS), U-M's top finisher in every previous meet of 2000, finished 16th (17:52). Fellow senior Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/Lasalle SS) was right behind in 17th (17:56), while Erin White (Battle Creek, Mich./Central HS) rounded out the top 20 with a time of 18:01.
The Wolverines have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, which will be held Saturday (Nov. 11) in Ypsilanti, Mich. The 6,000-meter women's race begins at 11 a.m. at Eagle Crest Golf Course.
