This Week
The top-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (6-0-2, 4-0-0 CCHA) hosts intrastate rival Michigan State on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Yost Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m. The game is the first of four regular-season meetings with the sixth-ranked Spartans in the 2000-01 season. The Wolverines, unbeaten in their first eight games this season, are off to their best start since they went 10-0-1 at the start of the 1993-94 season. Fans are encouraged to wear yellow as part of the second annual Maize Out. Bank One will provide maize shirts to the first 1,000 fans at the game.
No. 1 in the Nation
Michigan is the top-ranked team in college hockey in both the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/American Hockey Magazine polls this week (Oct. 30). It is the first time the Wolverines have been ranked No. 1 since the 1996-97 season. Wisconsin is No. 2 in both polls.

Last Time Against MSU
In a non-conference meeting between the teams at Joe Louis Arena on Feb. 26, 2000, the Wolverines and Spartans tied 3-3. Michigan took a 3-1 lead but allowed two goals in the third to tie. J.J. Swistak (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) scored his second goal of the year. On the goal, Mike Roemensky (White Lake, Mich.) scored his first point as a Wolverine with an assist in his 12th game after joining the team midseason.
Last Weekend
Michigan swept the season series with Miami (Ohio) with a pair of home wins -- 3-2 on Friday (Oct. 27) and 6-2 on Saturday (Oct. 28). Andy Hilbert (Howell, Mich.) lit up the RedHawks for two goals and four assists on the weekend. Freshman Mike Komisarek (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) found the net for his first and second career goals. He added an assist for a three-point weekend. Michigan's defense held Miami to just one power-play goal in eight chances. Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) stopped 31 of 34 shots before he was slammed into the crossbar late in the second period of Saturday's game. His replacement, L.J. Scarpace (Dearborn, Mich.), stopped seven of eight shots faced in 20 minutes of relief to earn the win.
End of an Era
Sophomore Mike Cammalleri's (Richmond Hill, Ont.) season-opening, seven-game scoring streak was halted on Saturday night (Oct. 28). He had scored two goals and nine assists for 11 points in the first seven games of the season.
When It Rains, It Pours
Andy Hilbert has scored in six of eight games this season. In each game he has scored this season, Hilbert has at least two points. Last weekend, he had a goal and two assists in both of the games against Miami last weekend and now has three consecutive three-point games.

Close Ones
Twelve of the last 14 games between Michigan and Michigan State have been decided by two or fewer goals. Two of those 12 games (Jan. 29, 1999, and Feb. 26, 2000) were ties.
Been a While
Senior goaltender L.J. Scarpace recorded the win on Saturday (Oct. 28) for the Wolverines. It was the first time since last season's Great Lakes Invitational (a 3-1 loss to Michigan State on Dec. 29, 1999) that a goaltender other than Josh Blackburn received the decision in a game.
Power-Play Plus
As a regular member of the power-play unit, Andy Hilbert has been on the ice for 12 of Michigan's 15 power-play goals. Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Mike Cammalleri have both been on the ice for 11 of the 15 power play goals this season.
