SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- In a meet with six teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation, the No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's cross country team edged out No. 15 Arizona by two points to finish runner-up today (Friday, Oct. 6) at the Notre Dame Invitational.
The Wolverines were again led by senior All-American Katie Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS), who placed fifth overall (17:29). Junior Katy Radkewich (Hudson, Ohio/Beaumont HS) helped the Michigan cause with an eighth-place finish, only five seconds behind Jazwinski.
Michigan's 143 team points were second to No. 1-ranked Stanford, which won the meet with 35 points. Stanford had three of the top four finishers to lead the field. Other ranked teams in the 31-team field were No. 5 North Carolina State (sixth place), No. 24 Duke (fourth) and No. 25 Ball State (10th).
Michigan will return to action next Sunday (Oct. 15) when it hosts the Wolverine Interregional at the U-M Golf Course. The 5,000-meter women's race starts at 10:30 a.m., with the men's race to follow.
