Against the Longhorns
The Maize and Blue owns a 4-3 advantage over the Texas in the all-time series. The last time the Wolverines met Texas in dual meet action, the Longhorns prevailed, posting a 124-117 win during the 1997-98 season in Austin. Texas boasts five 2000 Olympians -- Nate Dusing, Scott Goldblatt, Tommy Hannan, Jamie Rauch and Ian Crocker.
In its only competition this season, Texas collected 117 points en route to its victory at the Big 12 Relays over No. 9 Texas A&M (105), Iowa State (67), Missouri (61.50), and Kansas (46.50). The Longhorns on the Internet: www.TexasSports.com.
Head Coach Jon Urbanchek's Comments
"This meet will give us a good measuring stick for us. I don't feel we can swim with them right now, and they will be favored to win the point total, but we'll have some strong individual events and challenge Texas throughout the weekend."
Elite Coaches
Michigan head coach Jon Urbanchek and Texas head coach Eddie Reese -- who were assistant coaches on the 2000 U.S. Olympic team -- have coached their teams to a combined 10 national championships and nine of the last 13 NCAA titles. Reese holds a 3-2 all-time mark against Ubanchek's Wolverines, but has never won in Ann Arbor.
Speedo America CSCAA Coaches Poll
Michigan is ranked 12th in the preseason CSCAA Coaches Poll. The poll comes out every two weeks of competition and the next poll will be released on Nov. 16, 2000.
