All-American Jazwinski Leads U-M to 14th at NCAAs

AMES, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team came in 14th place at the NCAA Championships on Monday (Nov. 20) at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course.
Senior Katie Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS), U-M's top harrier, garnered All-America honors with a 16th-place overall finish, traversing the 6,000-meter course in 21:11.4. For Jazwinski, this marks the second year in a row she is a cross country All-American. She improved on her 41st-place performance from last year's NCAA Championships.
Senior Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/Lasalle SS) and sophomore Jane Martineau (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant HS) turned in strong performances to help guide the Wolverines, finishing 77th and 83rd, respectively. Ouellet's 77th-place finish was an improvement from a year ago, when she placed 129th.
Rounding out the individual finishes for the Wolverines were: Erin White (Battle Creek, Mich./Central HS) in 146th, Katie Ryan (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) in 186th, Katie Easton (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) in 192nd and Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) placing 225th.
The University of Colorado took the team title, with 117 points, the Buffaloes' Kara Grgas-Wheeler won the individual championship with a time of 20:30.5. Wisconsin had the best performance by a Big Ten Conference school, placing eighth (298 points).
