Freestylers Lead U-M on First Day of Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- Members of the ninth-ranked University of Michigan men's swim team squared off against several of the best teams in the nation, including top-ranked host team University of Texas, on Friday (Dec. 1), the first of three days of competition. The Wolverines find themselves in sixth place out of 12 teams after six events.
Highlighting the evening's events for Michigan was the 500-yard freestyle, in which Chris Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS) and Dan Ketchum (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) placed second and third, respectively. Junior Jason Mallory (Granger, Ind./Penn HS) also made a solid showing in the 500 free by placing sixth.
Michigan will try to make up some ground in day two of the invitational on Saturday (Dec. 2), with preliminaries at 10 a.m. CST and finals at 6 p.m. CST.
