Wolverines Finish Sixth at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team turned in a sixth-place finish at the Texas Invitational as the competition wrapped up Sunday afternoon (Dec. 3). U-M scored 321 team points during the three-day meet.
The Wolverines were led by captain Scott Werner's (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI HS) runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke at 1:58.35. Werner narrowly missed taking first in the race, finishing just 0.02 seconds behind Texas' Brendan Hansen. It was the second runner-up finish of the meet for the honorable mention All-American, who also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday (Dec. 2).
Sophomore Ryan Earhart (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier HS) turned in a splendid performance in the 200-yard backstroke, placing fifth at 1:48.05.
The relay squad of freshman Dan Ketchum (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS), junior Matt Raines (Owosso, Mich./Corunna HS), junior Jordan Watland (Excelsior, Minn. /Minnetonka HS) and Earhart placed ninth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:04.20.
Coach Jon Urbanchek's Wolverine squad will have one month off until its next meet, on Friday, Jan. 5, at Stanford.
