ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team has announced the signing of one additional recruit to be part of its 2001 freshman class. Head coach Mark Rosen inked Shaynell Neal (Glenwood, Ill./Bloom Township HS), who joins with earlier signees Jennifer Gandolph (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) and Carrie Ritchie (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Comprehensive HS) to form the Wolverines' 2001 recruiting class.
Neal is an all-conference performer in volleyball as well as a two-time team MVP in track and field. "Shaynell is kind of a sleeper recruit that we are very excited about," said Rosen.
"In terms of her volleyball fundamentals she has some work to do, but athletically she is unbelievable and has a great upside. She is a great track athlete with excellent speed and leaping ability, so we are excited to get that type of athlete in our gym next fall and help develop her. She is also an excellent student."
