South Florida grabbed a 4-2 lead in the match behind wins at the No. 3 through No. 6 singles spots. The Wolverines gained two singles points behind strong performances from senior co-captains Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) and Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS). Hart came back from an opening-set loss in a tie-breaker to defeat Kathrine Tessier at the No. 1 spot (6-7, 7-6, 6-3). Lund won a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set match against Genevieve Houle at the No. 2 spot.
With Michigan needing a doubles sweep to pull the upset, Hart and freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) posted the team's only doubles victory with an 8-4 win over Genevieve Houle and Tina Harrison at the No. 2 spot.
Michigan caps the three-match homestand against regional opponent Marquette on Sunday (April 2, 1 p.m. EDT) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
