Wisniewski's bid to become Michigan's first 10,000-meter run champion at the Penn Relays in 12 years fell less than a second short, with Steve Bohan of West Virginia delivering a winning time of 29:04.37. The last Wolverine to win the 10,000-meter run championship at the Penn Relays was John Scherer (1986-89) in a time of 28:46.1. Wisniewski's time of 29:05.12 is personal best as well as a Michigan season best.
Also competing in the 10,000-meter run was sophomore Mark Pilja (Naperville, Ill./Naperville HS), who placed 25th with a time of 30:36.41. Pilja was unable to improve upon his personal best of 29:55.76, which he ran at the Stanford Invitational (March 25).
Wisniewski is the second Wolverine to run a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 10,000-meter run this season. The other is Steve Lawrence (Consecon, Ontario/East Northumberland HS), who ran the 10,000-meter run in 29:07.43 at the Stanford Invitational.
Several of Wisniewski and Pilja's teammates will also be participating in the Penn Relays throughout the weekend, while some other members of the Maize and Blue are competing in the Hillsdale Invitational on Saturday (April 29) at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich.
